It’s not all “Kum Ba Yah around the Campfire” when the MeetGreen team holds its annual staff retreat. We re-energize, talk about our work together, and plan for the future.
We strive to step as lightly on the Earth as possible while convening at a small coastal village for four days. Here are some of our practices:
- Brought re-usable water bottles and coffee mugs
- Brought one less pair of shoes (barefoot in sand)
- Carpooled from the city
- No heating or air conditioning was used
- 100% renewable power at venue
- Walked from accommodations to restaurant
- Had two vegetarian meals each day with the 3rd being optional
- No disposable plates, glasses or cutlery
- Only local fruit was served (berries, berries, berries)
- Salmon was caught in the local bay
- Offset all airline carbon of those who had to travel by air
- Recycled all the locally sourced wine bottles
- Held a CSR project – beach cleanup filling 11 bags and capturing one broken plastic chair
My Event Footprint reports our group of eleven people had this impact…
Full disclosure: we did build a campfire to gather and sing some Johnny Cash and Cee-Lo Green. Please don’t judge us.
