Food Waste Prevention Week is an annual event that raises awareness and inspires action in our communities to reduce wasted food at home, school, work, and events.
The Hidden Cost of Wasted Food
Did you know, on average, a family could save $3,000 annually just by using food they’ve already purchased instead of throwing it away?
That’s essentially working 90+ hours—more than two full work weeks—just to earn money that ends up in the trash. What could your family do with both that extra cash and time?
Growing National Movement
Food Waste Prevention Week has become a powerful nationwide initiative bringing communities together to tackle an everyday problem with extraordinary impact. This annual event doesn’t just raise awareness—it inspires practical action to reduce wasted food at home, school, work, and events.
The momentum is building. This year, partners from 49 states participated in the movement, nearly reaching the goal of representation from all 50 states. Several states had multiple partners helping to spread the word about food waste prevention; the final top 10 states were:
- Washington – 110
- Florida – 67
- Oregon – 54
- California – 37
- New York – 35
- Illinois – 26
- Maryland + Minnesota – 25
- Tennessee – 23
- Colorado – 21
