More With Less

Across nearly every industry, teams have been asked to do more with less. Tight budgets, rising costs, and limited resources have become the norm for many organizations.

When it comes to environmental sustainability, these efforts have historically been viewed as “nice to have” and perhaps more concerning, an added cost.

In event production, every kilowatt of energy, gallon of water, and pound of waste represents both an expense and an environmental impact. When we use less, we not only reduce environmental impacts; we also reduce costs.

At MeetGreen, we have witnessed firsthand how simple operational choices across signage, service ware, and materials management can reduce both environmental impacts and financial costs in powerful ways.

Carpet Reduction

One recent large-format production our team supported reduced its floor carpet by 35%, eliminating 157,053 square feet. This represented roughly $1 million dollars in savings from this action alone.

In addition, these designs saved nearly 25 tons of carpet onsite about the weight of 25 average mid-sized cars avoiding considerable:

  • Material handling
  • Labor
  • Waste

Even reduction strategies at smaller productions can add up quickly here are some examples:

  • 50,000 square ft venue spaces with uncarpeted aisles → ~$87,500 saved
  • 100,000 square ft venue spaces with uncarpeted aisles → ~$175,000 saved

Reusable Signage

Another MeetGreen client managing a mid-sized event prioritized its first-time design and use of evergreen banners, fabricated without dates. By this simple action they can utilize these banners year after year. This initiative allowed 2,900 square feet of material to be repurposed in the next cycle and helped save an estimated $20,300.

Reduced Adhesive Graphics

A third MeetGreen event targeted their decal branding and scaled back adhesive graphic use by 35% (10,306 square feet), saving roughly $77,000 while also reducing landfill waste.

A Win-Win

Savings at this scale benefit both budgets and the environment. In many cases, strategies like these can help offset or defray charges associated with:

  • Service ware upgrades
  • Enhanced waste sorting
  • Simply bolster additional resources across the event

As we plan future productions, using less energy, water, and material also reduces costs. By fully recognizing and leveraging this connection, we can truly benefit both our productions and the environment, and that is one of the best investments we can make!
