At MeetGreen, we like to shine a light on the people and organizations we work with who are putting sustainability into real, creative, and sometimes messy practice. Having goals is one thing but putting them into action is where we see the bold moves, and lately, there have been some great examples.
Rethinking Waste
This summer, we saw new approaches to tackling waste diversion. We saw one group successfully tackle over a ton of polyester and vinyl from banners and event structures, materials that we would otherwise often see end up in landfills.
Another client, with the MeetGreen team, worked closely with a venue’s catering partner to test composting service waste for the first time at a rather large convention center. While it took getting the buy-in from different departments, it worked and will open the door for similar future efforts.
Reuse, Redesign, Repeat
Clients are also committing to reusing in ways that will really add up. They are doing this by working with vendors to produce reusable cups, plates, and bowls for their domestic events. Others are looking at more durable materials that can handle multiple setups. These experiments will bring us closer to a more circular model, one event at a time.
Less Waste, More Taste
More innovative food planning and more plant-based meals are a significant shift that has helped events achieve their catering guarantee. With one event having only about 20 meals left over after feeding over six thousand people! When you add digital signage, water refill stations with the focus on minimizing food waste, you start to see real impact in the details.
Learning and Sharing
These wins all begin with collaboration and a willingness to try new things. Our clients are always open to new ideas to learn and share what works. It’s not about one event, but about the progress of each individual event, and that keeps our work exciting. Sustainability isn’t a side note, but a story.
