Shawna McKinley

Shawna McKinley, Sustainability Consultant

Shawna McKinley has more than 25 years of experience helping business and non-profit organisations deliver award-winning sustainability strategies for events with clients that include TED, the Canadian Medical Association and the United Nations Ozone Secretariat.

In addition to consulting, she serves as an Instructor at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, where she teaches and mentors students in sustainable event logistics, ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Shawna holds a Master of Arts, Environmental Education and Communication from Royal Roads University (Victoria, BC) and a Bachelor of Tourism Management from Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, (Rotorua, New Zealand). She is an Accredited Professional of the Sustainable Event Alliance and frequently contributes sustainability perspectives to event and travel trade publications and associations through research, articles and presentations, including Skift Meetings’ Guide to Better Green Meetings.

Shawna lives with her family on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ), Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw) and Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm) Nations, also referred to as North Vancouver, British Columbia.
