The MeetGreen® Calculator measures whether specific practices related to air quality, waste management, water conservation, energy efficiency and environmental purchases were requested, available, and implemented as well as the final quantitative outcomes. Reports allow you to benchmark against previous years’ data, as well as compare against other events. In addition to the MeetGreen® Calculator itself, you have access to the entire MeetGreen® Resource Kit, a collection of helpful forms, checklists, minimum guidelines and contract language to use with the vendors you work with and that will help you collect relevant information about your conference’s green practices and outcomes. Using these powerful tools in conjunction with the MeetGreen® Method, you won’t have to navigate the world of green event measurement alone.

The MeetGreen® Calculator interface allows you to manage your organization’s events in an intuitive and easy-to-use online interface. You can activate new events, update your organization’s information and get easy access to helpful reference information including the MeetGreen® Resource Kit.
Detailed reports, in just a few clicks
After entering data about your event, the reports at the end of the survey will allow you to benchmark and measure the extent of environmental practices your organization has in place for your events.Your MeetGreen® Calculator results will be compiled into the following reports:
- Your event’s total score
- Graphic measurement of your results in each category
- Comparison of your total score and individual category scores against other similar events
- Benchmarks for multiple events (multiple years of one event, or a variety of events in the same or different years). With this report you can compare and contrast the results and see what areas your organization is excelling in and where you can make improvements.
- Summary of measurable outcomes
All of our reports can be customized by selecting which conference you wish to look at and which year(s) you would like the data pulled from. You can even do historical comparisons of past events and your current conferences.
MeetGreen® Calculator Background
The MeetGreen® Calculator was originally developed in 2005 as a tool to satisfy the needs of our own clients. While MeetGreen® has been planning, consulting for and evaluating meetings with a sustainable mindset in one form or another since our inception in 1994, we wanted to take advantage of emerging technologies and develop a way to track our clients green practices and note improvements in annual meetings from year to year. As our clients became more engaged in green meetings, they began to ask if they were doing enough, and wanted to measure the improvements they were making over the years as a way to track their ROI and benchmark their progress. It became increasingly clear that measurement was becoming the next big thing in green meetings. We saw the value such a tool would provide to other planners, conference directors, and other organizations, and with that, the MeetGreen® Calculator was created.
Theory Behind the Numbers
Based on MeetGreen®’s unparalleled knowledge of sustainability in the meeting industry, the MeetGreen® Calculator is the most comprehensive green meeting measurement tool available on the market today. The original MeetGreen® Calculator was developed by MeetGreen® and reviewed by a five-member technical advisory committee (TAC). The TAC members were individuals with extensive and varied backgrounds in the environmental and sustainability industries.
The MeetGreen Calculator was developed anticipating the APEX/ASTM Standards, integrating what is understood to be included. It also allows you to earn points for policies, procedures and measurements that are part of BS8901. We’ve expanded the tool to assess over 160 event management practices and measurable outcomes related to sustainability across the following ten key categories, including aspects of the British Standard (BS 8901) for Sustainable Events and APEX/ASTM Green Meetings and Events Standards:
Several of the reports included with the MeetGreen® Calculator show your conference data compared against other events. The other data represents diverse events, ranging from 400-9,000 attendees (both domestic and international), covering several industries, which include varying degrees of environmentally responsible event practices and policies. The composite total score produced by the Calculator is created by calculating a total percentage score based on the total points possible within the Calculator. The graph below shows a breakdown of how the points are distributed within the individual categories.
