All this talk about healthy events here at MeetGreen resulted in the Spring Forward Challenge spearheaded by Shereen Vesalpour, Registration and Events Specialist. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, in fact it my help on our mission to get moving this spring.

During the month of April, everyone tracked their walking and running miles for a weekly prize of a coffeehouse gift certificate and an overall prize of dinner for two at a local, sustainable restaurant. For added incentive, Shereen found a very cool app called Charity Miles which donates money to your choice of charity for every mile walked and also tracks team progress. We allowed mileage gained onsite while working on events, because convention centers and show floors can be endless.

The friendly competition turned a bit fierce between the two leaders, Aaron Elliott and Kate Wilson, with Kate winning by a mere three miles in the end. You know we love our data, so here are the final results:

715 total miles walked/run by entire team
23 number of cities (3 countries) where the participants logged in miles
210 total winning miles
$163.50 donated to Feed America on our behalf

While the competition is over, we have continued to keep healthy by using Charity Miles to track our individual progress. Thanks to our champion, Shereen, we also found a new, easy way to enroll conference attendees, give back to the community, and promote health at our events.
